Every generator in our Approved Used range comes directly from the Charles Wilson hire fleet. All used generators for sale are sourced from reputable manufacturers including JCB and Himoinsa, serviced by our in-house engineers throughout their working life and inspected before being listed for sale. When you buy from us, you get a machine with a clean, documented history from day one.

We stock generators from 10 to 550 kVA, covering everything from smaller site welfare and tool power requirements through to heavy duty applications demanding significant continuous output. Our range includes both single phase and three phase machines, as well as towable and static configurations, so there is a suitable option for most site power requirements.

Stock rotates regularly as we update our hire fleet. If you are looking for something specific, please contact us and we will work with you to find the right machine or let you know as soon as one becomes available.

Frequently asked questions

  • What does Approved Used mean?

Approved Used is the standard we apply to every machine we sell from our hire fleet. Before anything is listed, it goes through a full inspection carried out by our in-house engineers, any work required is completed, and the service documentation is prepared ready for handover. Every machine comes with a full history from the day it entered our fleet, so you know exactly what you're buying and how it's been cared for.

  • What power output do I need from a generator?

For general site welfare, lighting and smaller power tool requirements, a generator in the 10 to 50 kVA range is typically sufficient. Medium-sized construction sites running multiple tools and equipment simultaneously will generally require something in the 100 to 200 kVA range. Larger applications involving heavy plant, pumps or significant continuous load will benefit from a machine in the 300 to 550 kVA range. If you are unsure what output your application requires, please contact us and we will be happy to advise.

  • What is the difference between single phase and three phase?

Single phase generators supply power through two conductors and are suited to standard site welfare and general power tool use. Three phase generators supply power through three conductors and are required for larger motors, heavy machinery and industrial equipment. If you are powering significant plant or equipment on site, a three phase machine is almost certainly what you need. We carry both types within our Approved Used range.

  • What is the difference between a towable and static generator?

A towable generator is mounted on a road-legal trailer, making it straightforward to move between sites or reposition as a project progresses. A static generator is designed for a fixed location and is better suited to longer-term or permanent power requirements. Both have their place depending on the nature of the work. Please contact us if you would like guidance on which configuration suits your situation.

  • What brands do you stock?

Our Approved Used generator range includes machines from JCB and Himoinsa. Both are respected manufacturers with established reputations for reliability and performance in demanding site environments. Parts availability and dealer support are strong for both brands across the UK, which matters when you are putting a used machine to work. Our hire fleet has been built around manufacturers we trust, and that carries through to every machine we sell.

  • How do I enquire or arrange a viewing?

You can use the enquiry form on this page or call us on 0808 175 0215. Please let us know what you are looking for, including any preferences on lift height, capacity or attachments, and we will come back to you with current availability. You are welcome to view any machine in person before committing to a purchase. Collection from your nearest Charles Wilson depot is the most straightforward option once you are ready to proceed.
